DRIVE BELTS: One of the easier and more economical self repairs that you can do on your car is to replace the drive belt. Drive belts show signs of wear by cracking or by having a concave look on the outside of the belt itself. When you determine that you need to replace the belt, what you'll need to do is loosen up two bolts. There are generally two bolts that hold most air pumps or air conditioners or alternators on. You'll loosen these two bolts, give a tug to the belt itself which loosens it up, gently remove the belt and pull it off over the fan. Replacing the belt is the reverse of the procedure. You'll need to get it over the fan itself, replace it over the pulley and over the air pump pulley, pull up on the air pump itself and tighten down the two bolts. A word on belt tension. What you need in a belt tension is to press your finger against the middle part of the fan making sure that you can push it in and within 1 or 1-1/2 and yet you don't' want it loose enough to move limply against your finger.
